Westman Islands raised and born musician Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson has been releasing music under the Júníus Meyvant moniker for few years. In his early twenties Unnar stumbled upon a beat-up guitar at his parents’ house and started noodling around. By playing the guitar he managed to tame his inner beast and his sense for songs and melodies burst like rockets. The uncontrollable urge for writing music and constant flow of ideas kept him tossing and turning every night and day forever and a day. Júníus Meyvant’s afflicted, concise, melodic and rich take on freaky folk pop has a highly familiar and soulful feel to it and a hint of attitude. Júníus’ wide sound pallet is all embracing and made up with his sultry voice, sizzling guitars, pummeling rhythms topped with washes of horns, synths and mellotron. Drawing comparisons to Sam Cooke, Charles Bradley, The Rolling Stones and Devendra Banhart the thirty something musician has a few singles, one EP and one LP under his sleeve. After successful tours in Europe and the US (including performances at Roskilde Festival in Denmark and Bumbershoot in Seattle) Júníus
released his debut full length, Floating Harmonies, in 2016. In the year 2018 Júníus finished the making of his sophomore album, Across the Borders, with musician and engineer Gu›mundur Kristinn Jónsson (Erlend Oye, Ásgeir, Hjálmar) in Hljó›riti Studio. The eleven track album is due for release in early 2019. |
Värmlands own GERD started taking rhythm classes at the age of one, and listening to Queen and Kate Bush records was a highlight of her day. Determined to find her own sound, she challenged her voice by delving into the art of opera – and GERD’s unique soundscape emerged at the intersection of these different worlds. Fast forward to now. Her debut single Lies For A Liar was premiered by none other than Zane Lowe. And with her debut album Meet Me In The Blue, released in spring 2024, GERD draws us into an immersive and unknown world with her experimental arrangements and unconventional songwriting. Whether it's performances with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra or an electric pop-up gig at San Vicente Bungalows, the critically acclaimed rising star is known for her euphoric live performances. The P3 Gold winner has been praised by the likes of Zane Lowe, Jan Gradvall and Sveriges Radio P3, while her debut EP In It To Lose was released to critical acclaim.

Arvid Nero has over the years moved freely in a musical world dominated by blues, country and soul. His lyrics are reflections on the darkness of life, often paired with a vein of tragicomic. He began his musical journey as a street musician in Gothenburg and in 2018 he debuted with the critically acclaimed solo album “Mother Earth”. Since then he has released two more albums, an EP and a number of singles. In the fall of 2022, Arvid's first single in Swedish was released; "En gång en vän" (Once upon a time, a friend) and it was the start of new songwriting, now with a focus on his own language. He finds inspiration in the great musical poets such as Cornelis, Åkerström, Dylan and Cohen, but the artist he really feels a connection with is Alf Robertson and his music and lyrics about ordinary life. “Galler”, which is a homage to the poet Stig Dagerman and his writing, gives us a strong story with a touch of melancholy, a beautiful melody and wonderful production. Arvid's voice truly has the ability to go straight into the soul. Arvid continues to explore the Swedish language in his music and more music is coming throughout the year.

The profound sense of quietness that can be heard in Alice Boman’s music stems from its simple roots. Initially a project that started at home when she was a teenager, the songs she was making were just “sketches.” Yet as soon as other people heard them, it was clear that there was so much more to her talents than simple home tinkering. Two EPs followed, 2013’s Skisser and 2014’s EP II, as did a wave of critical acclaim and an array of TV placements for her music on shows such as Transparent, Wanderlust, and 13 Reasons Why. With her new reach, the Swedish songwriter captivated listeners one-by-one..

We end the season with one of Norway's most popular and acclaimed singer/songwriters. As is often the case with distinctive endeavors, the creative path of Thomas Dybdahl -- the 46-year-old guitarist, singer, songwriter, and native of Sandnes, Norway -- has been, for nearly a decade, all his own. “I’ve taken an eclectic approach,” Dybdahl says. “I’ve sought to draw influences from the whole spectrum of music -- not only from songwriters and singers but also from contemporary and classical music. I am always trying to infuse my work with all these different influences so that I don’t limit myself, or listeners, to the notion of being just another guy with a guitar.”
